FMG9: Folding Machine Gun

Posted in Weapons by admin

The idea of folding machine gun is kind of old. Many gun designers even tried and made it successful. Because folding machine guns are more portable, efficient and very effective for the combat. The first folding machine gun was designed by the legendary gun designer Eugene Stoner developed one in the 1980s. However, recently Magpul Industries made news with its own updated take on the lethal cult classic. The FMG9, short for Folding Machine Gun, looks like some sort of toolbox with a flashlight mounted on top.

Now lets dig into a details, the gun is framed by the lightweight polymer casing belie its firepower and it holds 31 9×19 mm NATO rounds in a Glock magazine and although the prototype was only semi-automatic, a fully automatic version will almost certainly be available if production goes ahead. It’s like “Glock in a Box” and the prototype is folding 9mm Parabellum (9×19mm NATO ) mini / micro-submachine gun (SMG) that utilizes a Glock 17 slide and any factory Glock 9mm magazine, including 30-33-round Glock 18 mags. The FMG9 is designed to offer maximum firepower and control in a compact and cautious package.

However, if the FMG9 is produced then it would be regulated by the National Firearms Act of 1934. The semi-automatic version would most likely be classified as a Short-Barreled Rifle (SBR) or Any-Other Weapon (AOW) depending on estimation from the ATF Firearms Technology Branch. This would require a registered transfer only to qualified individuals. Fully-automatic versions would be classified as a post ’86 Machine-Gun (MG) and would not be available to individuals other than Class 3 dealers, such as military and law enforcement personnel.

Robot in Operation

Posted in Robot News by admin

On 21 January Wednesday a team of British researchers said robot is as safe as working with a human. The statement was come out in an analysis after using a robot to operate a camera in gall bladder operations that underscores the effectiveness of latest robot technology in surgery which may become a mile stone in health history.
In the Cochrane Review journal, Kurinchi Gurusamy and colleagues, researcher the Royal Free Hospital in London, said, though robots might not be ready to take over, they offer immense potential to do things such as allowing surgeon to perform emergency operations without having to wait for any human assistant.

In the analysis the research group looked at key-hole, or laparoscopic, surgery in which an assistant operates a camera that acts as the surgeon’s eyes during gall bladder removal. This type of surgery is fairly common in the developing countries where approximately 10% to 15% of people develop gallstones. Already, robots are used in thousands of different procedures, and experts of this sector predict technology will increasingly take a vital role in the operation room in order to boost understaffed hospitals worldwide. In the research, Gurusamy and colleagues analyzed statistics from five studies relating 453 people to observe how well robots performed the situation in place of humans.

Hopefully enough the findings showed no considerable difference in the number of gall bladders that broke during surgery. The evaluation looked at different type of technologies, including Intuitive Surgical Inc’s market-leading da Vinci system, and got no differences in deaths, the need to switch to more complicated surgery, whole operating time, and length of stay in hospital. However, few critics question the cost-effectiveness of robots, they say it will increase the cost of operation whereas others say with the passage of time it will become reasonable.

Justice officials reported on last Monday a China-born business person has been arrested in California, USA on charges of illegally exporting sensitive technology capable of use in military radar systems. In a statement the Justice Department cited Beijing resident 61-year-old William Tsu Cha- Wai was detained 10 January Saturday at a casino under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.

The statement noted Tsu illegally shipped no less than 200 sophisticated integrated circuits to China. On the other hand, special agent Anthony Levey quoted in a statement “This investigation shows the need to continue the halt of illegal procurement of items that have the potential to damage our national security.”

Last year, Mike McConnell, U.S. Director of National Intelligence, accused China of aggressive spying for sensitive American military technology. In December 2008, two individuals were charged with illegally exporting thermal-imaging cameras to China. The recent arrest is the latest in a series of cases involving Chinese or Chinese- born persons and the export of sensitive U.S. military technology. Additionally, the incident is another testimony of Mike McConnell’s claim. However, the political analysts’ hopes the recent incident do not make any bad impact on China and US relationship. But they give advice to the administration to be more concern about it.
