$100 Laptop or Children’s!

The $100 laptop is a project of OLPC (One laptop per child) non profitable organization. The organization is created by the faculty members of the MIT Media Lab. The MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Media Lab is a School of architecture and planning which was established in 1985. The whole product is ready; soon they will launch their product in some fixed poor country. OLPC’s goal is designing a laptop with modern educational software which is based on manufacturing and distribution system. Their mission is to provide this laptop to the children outside of the first-world where unavailable technological learning opportunities.

What is $100 laptop?

The $100 laptop is a children machine. It is designed to be small, efficient and low-cost. The color of the whole machine is green. The laptops are needed very low power consumption and with this machine children will able to interact with each other while learning. The OLPC research group thinks a lot of things about what the children want. So they try to fulfill all the requirements by this laptop. And the added a lot of feature for them. They want to create believe in the child minds that education is not boring, it is easy and attractive. The green machine can be used as an electronic book. A child will able to control the laptop by using its cursor or touchpad. Children can also be used it like a handheld games and can use as a TV.

The product company used 500MHz processor with 1GBflash memory, 256 DRAM and four USB ports for the laptop. Moreover, a built-in video camera with 640×480 resolution, a microphone and hybrid touch pad are added with it. The 7.5 inch (diagonally) with 1200×900 size display is also nice to look at in it. The $100 laptop, it can be link up and share a net connection. This connection is created based on mesh networking. So the laptop is really exciting and attractive for the children.

This type of laptop is really a dream for the children of poor country. The children will be get more interest in their education when they will get this product in their hand. The UN is also encouraging the OLPC. And “Children will be able to learn by doing, not just through instruction – they will be able to open up new fronts for their education, particularly peer-to-peer learning” said UN secretary Mr Kofi Annan. He added that it is “inspiring”. In first time the price of the product will $188 and Product Company’s aim is to provide it in $100 with in a few times.
