Apple Modify iPhone to Introduce in China

iphone- China UnicomUS electronics giant Apple and China Unicom announced on Friday that they have made an agreement to introduce Apple’s popular gadget iPhone in China later 2009. The country is the world’s largest cellular phone market with above 650 million cell phone accounts.

Unicom is going to be the first Chinese mobile phone company to officially support the iPhone network.  However, thousands of fake iPhones are smuggled into China. Details of the deal are yet to be revealed, but some reports claim the sales can begin in the last quarter of the running year. Unicom expects to draw many of the cell users from rivals China Telecom and China Mobile.

According to reports, the iPhone version for China will be modified to assure government rule. The rule requires the exclusion of the phone’s wireless net function. On the other hand, Research in Motion’s data indicates Apple is competing with rival Blackberry in China for touch-pad smart phones.
